Jagball

The most popular sport in Taru Ardentia, jagball involves the use of ripe Jagatha and sticks carved to hold the fruit on one end.

Gameplay

Contestants work in teams of four, with a minimum of two teams playing at a time. Frequently, however, more than two teams will play at once. The teams are in a field with a few obstacles scattered around. One member is dubbed the prey, the other three are dubbed hunters. The prey runs through the field, using obstacles and speed to avoid the hunters. The hunters chase the opponent prey, attempting to launch their jagatha and hit the prey with it. A point is earned for the team that lands a jagatha on a prey.   After the prey has been hit, the teams return to the edges of the field. The team with a prey that got hit swap roles, if they go through all team members serving as prey then they are considered out of the game.   The winner of the game is the last team to have a member that has not been tagged by the jagatha. Points earned during play determine the following placements, and when applicable towards ranking throughout competitive seasons.

Origins

Jagatha is the most commonly available fruit in Taru Ardentia. When it ripens, it is fully inedible but very soft. The people of Taru Ardentia refuse to waste anything, so they found a use for the multitudes of inedible fruit they had every year. Children began using them in a game, letting the useless fruit bring entertainment. It caught on quickly, becoming Taru Ardentia's preferred athletic recreation.
