Personal history
Izen al-Khorus grew up in elven territory, his parents having escaped Shadowfell. They searched for a life free from the reign of the Raven Queen, but this didn't last long. At age 13, Izen's parents were abducted by agents of the Raven Queen sent to find them. Izen was orphaned; they only didn't find him because his parents hid him safely.
The years that followed were hard and filled with heartache. Izen attempted to live from city to city in the elven lands, but found himself constantly hated and ridiculed due to his nature as a Shadar-kai. The best he could do was pick up dangerous jobs around the city, and find respite in local churches or sanctuaries. His work gave him the intelligence to get things done, and he often manipulated his way through life in order to get to the other side safely.
Things changed drastically when the village Izen was staying in at age 15 was raided by Mind Flayers, and the populace was taken hostage. Izen was almost converted into one of the Illithids, and a tadpole was already inserted into his brain when an order of clerics found them, killed the Flayers, and saved what remained of the populace. The clerics did their best to cure him, and managed to stop the tadpole from eating his brain, but they were unable to remove or kill it.
Izen's tadpole now resides inside his head. The Flayer feeds off of the activity of Izen's synapses; in order to keep him alive, Izen's latent elven magic has been psionically enhanced to the point of uncontrollability. This traumatizing experience has taught Izen a couple of things.
People can't be trusted, and it's easier to lie your way through life than to be vulnerable. If gods exist, he hates them and the people that lift them up. His existence would have been better had it not been willed into being in the first place. But above all others, he knows what it means to be a victim. And if he sees someone being victimized the way he has been, he has to do something.

I assume the worst in people. As a result, I use but I don't trust. I simply am not strong enough to fend for myself, so the people around me make for good resources.
A dark and squalid man, keeping his eyes low and his presence small. You can't tell what it is, but there's something scratching at the back of your mind about him. Something menacing.
