The High Marquee of Zahdoni

The High Marquees is the ruler of Zahdoni, which is legally independent of the triad nations alliance that sponsored it, but broadly held subservient to them. The job, originally established to oversee taxation and trade provide the burgeoning march of Zahdoni support from the East and give information from the West to the Eastern nations, has evolved over time to be a full ruling title in its own right. The failure of the two initial frontier settlement attempts has reduced both the faith and support provided by the eastern nations, allowing the independent rulership of the High Marquee of Zahdoni.   The current High Marquees is Lorfyr Lightstar, a half-moon elf who was a long lost descendant of the Valerian royal line, and who’s father (the original High Marquees) grew up in the outskirts of Ridir, and who's mother was a Édelian artisan who immigrated to Mertessa, or so the story goes. Lorfyr was raised in Frontier and has seen the rise and fall of all three settlements.

Appointment

Appointment is done by the Triad Nations Alliance upon the death or retirement of the previous title holder. Any noble may nominate for the position, and it is elected by majority vote from the TNA.

Duties

Officially, the High Marquees is required to hold court once a week, sign documentation, send reports back to Mertessa, Edel, and Ridir, and little else.  Unofficially the current High Marquee has begun making steps towards Zahdoni's greater independence from the Eastern triad. After his father's passing, he made an immigration blitz for farmers and labourers, establishing the city of Frontier's agricultural independence from Edel; started a program to entice young, skilled artisans from Mertessa to begin their own works in Zahdoni; and has now established a new Westmarch call, with a gold incentive to encourage greater uptake across the East. These moves have reinvigorated the region and placed a trust and loyalty in the High Marquee that had not been there previously.
