The Westmarchers
The Westmarchers, known colloquially as the wandering angels, is an organisation as old as Frontier itself. Originally the adventurers guild for Zahdoni, then later a loose alignment of wanderers, and finally a paid adventuring force, the purpose and primary tenant of the organisation has never changed; the conquest, civilisation and expansion into the western lands of Sasara.
The Westmarchers have historically struggled as an organisation to gain members, even during "The First Wave", due to the dangerous reputation of the west. This has resulted in the current trend of paying those who are adventurous, or desperate, enough to accept payment for their membership, along with contracts of service for a short period of time.
Structure
A highly horizontal organisation, the Westmarchers are primarily equal in their status, with unofficial mentorship and leadership existing between fresh and veteran members.
In the past, the organisation held specific positions within it that allowed members to pool resources, organise contracts and present concerns or desires for the group as a whole to the nobles of the city. After the final members of "The First Wave" passed away or left, this organisational system fell apart. The fire that destroyed much of the original Wandering Angel Tavern cemented the end of this structure, as most records and documents that explained the process were destroyed.
The Second Wave Westmarchers have proven more independent in their actions and approach, finding the freedom this brings to be preferable.
Culture
The organisations culture is as varied as its members, with the only real defining feature of the Westamarchers being their desire to explore and adventure. When accepted into the organisation, a Westmarcher is provided a stipend to settle affairs within the eastern nations, and a ticket to Zahdoni. With some exception, they are provided a clean slate of affair within the three-nations alliance, as well as a new citizenship to Zahdoni.
Many members of the Westmarchers were recruited in the eastern nations through the promise of riches and adventure; a significant portion hailing from rural or even nomadic communities that struggle in the broader space of Edel, Ridir, and Mertessa. These members often provide a portion of their initial payment to their eastern community, joining the Westmarchers as a community martyr. These members often become the glue of the organisation, acting as community links, and providing a wide array of skills that were learnt in their caravans, communities, and tribes.
Other members of the Westmarchers stem from organisations within the east that seek resources, influence, or even just space in the west. These members volunteer for and gain support from, their parent organisation. They become resource centres for parties, often using their parent organisations money, intel, or contacts to make contracts easier.
Public Agenda
The core public tenants of the Westmarchers is the exploration and civil conquest of the western wildlands, integrating them into Zahdoni proper. Within this tenant, Westmarchers are allowed to step past the western boundaries of Zahdoni and claim land in the name of Zahdoni, as well as any organisation or individual they choose. Outside of this tenant, Westmarchers are allowed to do anything that any citizen of Zahdoni is legally allowed to do.
