Mire Shades

Creatures of unknown origin, only that they seem to be linked to the Mire. They have never been sighted before, though now that you have seen them, the shuffling in the dark begins to take on a new meaning. Unlike the Mire itself, Mire Shades can just sustain themselves in dim light, however prolonged exposure to bright light or sunlight will cripple them, causing them to gradually dissipate in a few seconds.
Mire Shades can take on several forms, beginning with the smallest, human-sized shades, which are generally quite weak, slow, and susceptible to all manner of attacks and growing into colossal creatures with brutal strength.
The last Mire Shade was seen during the Battle of the Peak, summoned by Derashi tribespeople during the conflict. It is unclear how this summoning was actually done considering the demise of the Shard of the Father.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Mire Shades are composed of a seething dark substance similar to the mire itself. It takes on the form of a human, but has no organs save the "core", or heart, of the shade itself, which appears as an opaque, dark shard of crystal. Paradoxically, this core is a bright white light that appears to be tossed around inside the body of the shade, but does not damage it. Moving a weapon through a shade feels like hitting water, causing it to drag through. Within the shade is a vague skeletal structure made of a hard, but brittle substance. On death, this skeleton usually shatters, leaving a fine powder on the ground. Should the heart be damaged as well, it will break on the death of the shade. Shades can merge together with one another to form larger variations. It generally takes four shades to form a large shade, and two large shades to form a heavy shade. Each successive increase in size brings with it greater durability and lethality in combat. Smaller shades can also add themselves to larger shades to reconstitute them should they take damage.
