Paragons of GDVI
Religious zealots who worship the goddess Gedvanni.
Divine Origins
The Paragons of GDVI started as no more than a small cult. It began with a man named Darren Undale, who under direct guidance of Gedvanni herself, performed miracles and wonders all over the land of Azeer in a time when faith in her was dwindling. Eventually, his travels led him to the town of Valishia, in the center of Azeer. It was here that he caught the attention of the king of Valishia, and through his miracles and work became well known throughout the continent. Through him, many clerics and paladins the world over were inspired to learn from him and spread his work throughout the land, his disciples steadily grew in numbers. Many years after his initial journey, he was recognized as the savior of the Gedvanni faith, and in doing so, he established a base of operations in Valishia for his faith; The Paragons of GDVI. Before his death, Darren spoke with the king of Valishia, and through his approval began to enact the universal calendar of the Central Sathis Calendar. His disciples spread the use of this calendar to each of the places they visited, and within 150 years it became the standard. Darren died in the year 3, and he is regarded as one of the most influencial and holy people the world ever saw.
Cosmological Views
According to the Paragons, Gedvanni created the universe, and within it she created the gods. Gedvanni herself created a vast amount of flora and Fauna within the universe, but the others did indeed help create some of the creatures in existence.
Tenets of Faith
The religion is quite a simple one. All good things come from Gedvanni, and thanks must be given back to her where they are due. The world is a harsh place, so be kind to those around you. The cycle of life as put in place by Gedvanni herself, anything undead must be ridden from the world.
Worship
Most people in Sathis are quite busy with the toil of their daily lives, so common worshipers show up to prayer sites and temples once a month or so. Devout followers or citizens of large cities with a large Paragon influence show up to temples once a week.
The Paragons believe that Gedvanni's magnificent power can be found in all things, so during worship, people will bring keepsakes, items of value, or even just baubles they find precious with them and grasp them as they worship Gedvanni.
One interesting thing to note is that many devout followers within the Paragon find that it is unholy to speak Gedvanni's true name, and shorten the name to GDVI
Political Influence & Intrigue
In the beginning of the faith's conception, it was not political at all, and the only times it ever consulted a government was for the genuine benefit of the land (I.E.: The Central Sathis Calendar), but in recent years, it has become somewhat corrupt. Shady deals are made between the Paragons and the Azeerian government, and some even go as far as to say that the creation of the Azeerian one continent government was largely influenced by the Paragons, so that their influence would more easily be spread via legislation.
Sects
Daughters of the All-Mother: An all female sect of the Paragons. Women have rather hard times finding true work or meaningful places within the paragons, so the Daughters is a branch-off of the main religion. By the mainstream faith they are mostly accepted, but zealots find them to be brash and wrong, and that the Paragons are the only true way to worship Gedvanni.
