Emily was orphaned at 17 years old and given over to the custody of the state as she had no other living family. When she was nineteen, she met Hiram Black. She was 21 when she was married, and 23 when she had their first child.
Emily Black was a loving mother in hard times struggling to make the best of an evil situation. Her husband had seemed to flee their home in the night. Emily moved from New York to Detroit shortly after Hiram's disappearance. Her boss promoted her to be the quartermaster of a new Warehouse in Detroit for the company, an unheard of promotion.
