Beltsville, Kansas
The Confederacy of Violent Delight was formed by a Brat Pack-esque group of 80s and 90s babies who grew up to take the art world in America by storm. Rather than join the rat race of LA or New York or even London, the large group of friends decided to fashion themselves after Virginia Woolf’s Bloomsbury Group but take it a step further and buy land to build their own independent township with a focus on and reference for the creation, production, and consumption of art. Following the establishment of the original Confederacy of Violent Delight in 1990, construction began on a blank 1000-acre slate to realize the dream of the independent township of Beltsville, Kansas.
