The City of Flags
Cáthéan is the capital of the Independent State of Méhaonáil - known in the Human World as Iceland. It is a country that is not historically bound to one race, but instead is very diverse and takes an open stand against racism. Additionally Méhaonáil is the only country in Degheich with a citizen elected government.
Cáthéan was founded by people that had been rejected from other countries. It is also called "The City of Flags", because people with origins from every corner of the world live there. Among people who just did not feel happy in their home country, there are people residing here that have been banished in political disputes or court trials. For a long time, nobody would be rejected at the shores of the island. Because of that, Cáthéan gained a rather bad reputation, as a city housing criminals, traitors and all kinds of bad people. But on the other hand, Cáthéan was used as an easy get-away for anyone that could not stay in their home country, criminal or not. Over the course of time, Méhaonáil had to make some kind of connections to other countries, so laws were put in place to regulate who could enter the country and who could not. As of today, Cáthéan does not accept people anymore that were banished from their countries for treason. Additionally to the people moving to Cáthéan from all over Degheich, there are a lot of rifts and natural portals in Méhaonáil, so there are also humans crossing over into Degheich in and around Cáthéan, adding to the unique culture in the city.
