Everytool

Everytools are a relatively unexciting magical item that is fairly popular with adventurers with varied challenges who want to travel light.   Everytools are shapeshifting tools. They can be a crowbar, a spade, a hammer, a saw, a hatchet, or an awl among other things.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Normally Everytools usually need a very simple command word or phrase followed by naming the tool they want. A common command phrase is "I can should sure use a ________ right now." and that will cause the current tool to shift into the requested tool in about a minute.   If two things are frequently used together, like a compass and ruler, the Everytool will split and both halves will morph. This increase the transformation time a little bit.   Unless an Everytool is shattered into tiny pieces, it will repair itself of most damage including being snapped in half. To heal, the Everytool needs to be left alone and untouched for a few days for heavy damage.   Otherwise, if it's not damage but left untouched for a day, an Everytool can sharpen or oil itself or otherwise do basic maintenance over a 12 hour period.

Manufacturing process

A theurgist with Crafts ●●●● can make an Everytool.   An arcane Conjurer with the "Conjure Item" spell and with "Craft permanent Magic Item" Merit feat can make an Everytool.   To craft the item, the magical item crafter gathers an assortment of normal tools (at least eight) and then ritually destroys them. The wooden parts are mulched and burned and the metal parts are melted and reforged together. reagents are added into the process. The crafter will then make a single tool, albeit an oversized one. A tool with mixed metal and wooden parts like a spade is ideal.   The item is then put in an ordinary tool shed and rests for a few days. It will gradually shrink down to a usable size at which point this is now a functional magical item and can turn into any tool destroyed in its creation process.   An Everytool can turn into tools not incorporated into its original creation. To add new tools to its repertoire, it needs to "sleep" in a toolbox or toolshed with the new tool or tools in question for a few days. It will pick up the new shapes by proverbial osmosis.

Significance

The tools an Everytool becomes are not better than normal tools (other than their ability to self-repair). The main advantage is that it lets someone travel light carrying one tool rather than dozens of tools.   Some wealthy craftsman like to keep an Everytool as a status symbol.

Magical
Raw materials & Components
It takes 300 drams of reagents to make an Everytool. Roughly 20% of the reagents should be durable.   a dram of reagents normally costs about a silver piece   This makes Everytool pretty cheap as magical items go, but still very expensive compared to simply owning a normal set of tools.
