Geelak the tengku naturalist
Geelak was born in the Barony of Platinum Peak. He didn't have quite the instincts or tenacity to compete with other tengku merchants of the Platinum Consortium, maybe he had a smidgeon too much compassion for the downtrodden to be a truly successful merchant.
His parents knew this, and they weren't going to let their son become a common laborer. They apprenticed him to become a physician, letting him channel his unfortunate altruistic tendencies into something that can make a good income. At Platinum Peak, there are plenty of illnesses and mining accidents to call for a physician.
Geelak had a good head for medicinal knowledge, but on his first trip into wilderness to join his mentor to forge for medicinal healing herbs, Geelak decided he enjoyed foraging in the wilderness more than he enjoyed treating patients, and he can make similar income become occasionally he stumbled on to valuable reagents. This ultimately caused him to leave Platinum Peak and end up wandering the Border Baronies Region as a whole.

Unfortunately, reagent hunting in the remote wilderness is not without its dangers. After running afoul of some brigands once and barely talking them into letting him live and barely managing to sneak away, Geelak bought a long sword and got some rudimentary instruction. He hopes the sword is big enough to dissuade attackers in the first place. Also, a two handed weapon compensates for his mediocre upper body strength. His innate tengku agility makes up partially for his limited training and experience.
