the Manticore
It is unclear whether there are several Manticores or a single Manticore that is reincarnated several times in many disparate places in Scarterra. While the Manticore is seen all over Scarterra, no one has ever seen two in one place. Manticores/the Manticore are/is very loyal to Maylar and is essentially a very powerful questing spirit.
A Manticore is a very dangerous monster. Manticores are limited shape changers capable of taking on a human form (albeit it's usually an odd looking human), but there true form is a giant lion like monster with grey fur and a vaguely human face. Manticores have a long spikey tail and shoot poisonous spikes with uncanny accuracy, regenerating lost spikes very quickly.
As fast as the manticore move, they cannot dodge particularly well because of their large size, but their spiked tails are fast and nimble enough to parry attacks almost like a shield.
The manticore has wings but the wings are mainly for long jumps or short flying sprints. If it needs to travel long distances, it will run on foot.
The Manticore does not fear death (presumably because it has been reincarnated many times) but it seeks an "honorable death in battle." The manticore has no problems fighting a powerful individual or small group of adventurers to the death, but the manticore will generally avoid fights against large groups, especially large groups armed with missile weapons.
