Description

Built near one of the few mountainous islands on Uthea, Atidon is a welcome sight for the weary traveler traversing Near Space - or it would be, if the system wasn't currently under Quarantine.

Metal spires climb into the sky, rising from a wall of fog and steam, the sun beaming down through the habitation bubble to reflect down onto the wall. Yet the base of the city remains obscured. With the sparkle coming off the metal spires, the businesses and penthouses and billboards more numerous than the peaks of the nearby mountains, you would expect this city to be one purely of opulence and vices. And it is, but like most rainforests, little light reaches the floor, and not all that glitters is truly gold.
Beneath the canopy of fog lies the comparatively derelict streets of Atidon, with pillars of adamantine littering the landscape, holding up the shining buildings above. Always dim, usually wet from a mix of ocean water and the ever-present fog, the Base level of Atidon is a dark, depressing place. The people live under the thumb of the plutocracy that runs the city, working or stealing to get by while trapped in the system by the quarantine. Diverse people drift along always soaked streets, umbrellas and coats protecting them from the runoff coming from the nearby buildings.

Even lower than the base of Atidon is the underside of it, the tunnels where initially important machinery for upkeep and safety were kept are now long abandoned and renamed to Beggar's End .

Government

Plutocracy; those members high up among the Aspis Corporation or in favor with them have all the power.

Industry & Trade

Much of the export is in the resources mined from deep beneath the ocean of Uthea or in the other planets in the system. Much of it is being used in the ongoing project to rebuild the 2 - Broken Ring World, which is currently on pause due to the quarantine. Outside of that, some work is down in laboratories by those investigating 6 - Iron World. Finally, some tourism used to take place as the strange Ring World that's been in the system for millennia, but that's been cut off, leaving some tourists trapped.
