Galactic Council

The Galactic Council is made up of one of each of the sentient races that have been called to serve on it. Their existence is to make any galaxy-wide decisions that would have a massive impact on every living being within it. While used only rarely, the last time was a mere fifty years ago. 

Despite being used so rarely, being on the council is a high honor.

There are "honorary" types of seats on the council, referred to as "Elder Beings", which refer to chancellors of nearly extinct or similarly diminished species. Only a handful of these remain and while they don't have a formal vote, they still command great respect from the other chancellors.
