Cathryn Muhalland
Cathryn is a war mage. She didn't start out that way; her profession was as a baker until a Tondene Imperial Army officer noticed how bright she was. She was encouraged to join the Army (the signing bonus didn't hurt, and in her case was four months' wages). Once out of basic training, she was fast tracked into the mage corps, where she learned how to manipulate magic. She hadn't been born a mage, but the Empire is always on the lookout for bright people that could fill in their logistical ranks.
Cathryn isn't the front line fighter type, despite being trained to do so. Her list of spells is designed to make the soldier's life better: better food, better shelter, better weather, better defenses. She will often lead large, ceremonial castings to increase the power, range, and effect of her spells, using soldiers as her helpers. Since soldiers very much want her services, they are more than willing to spend an hour or two dancing and chanting rather than digging latrines, building roads, or fortifying the camp. Her magic makes all of those things easier, and they are very willing to help out.
