Bev Tribespeople
The Bev Tribespeople live in central Sanguin and are one of the many established Sanguin Tribes. The Bev Tribespeople are known for their spiritual knowledge and ability to disarm traps left behind from the Old World, and so many nomadic tribes and groups will travel to the Bev settlement for trade and to hire help.
Often described as the embodiment of hell, the lands of Sanguin forces the Bev Tribespeople to adapt to their harsh and unpredictable landscape, nursing the sick suffering from "Sanguin's Last Curse" with diseases such as Shrinking Bones and Bloodrot, enduring dust devils, landslides, drought and tornados, and foraging, tunneling or "finding" food and scarce resources.
Unlike the other tribes who also have spiritual practices, many of the priests of the Bev Tribespeople feel the ruins of the Old World are worth exploring to further a spiritual understanding of Gaia, and perhaps a cure to Sanguin's 'sickness'. There are few raiders among the Bev settlement, but raiders from other tribes are enthusiastic to work with those who may disarm traps along the way.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Sanguin is a vital language for trade among the tribes, and most members will speak or sign it fluently. BevCha, the city language, is shared among the priests and those who grew up in the settlement or lived there for some time. It is seen as a language that should only be spoken by trusted members of the tribe, to allow for private discussion of opinions during trade with other tribes, among other things. Many tribes have their own such language and do not think of it as an insult, with a few exceptions.
Common is also spoken by a few of the tribespeople, especially those willing to attempt trade across the continents or search for foreign medicines.
Shared customary codes and values
"Let not one kind of mind sit on this land, let not two. Let countless cover the walls in shadows." - Bev sayingMany outsiders hoping to join the tribe must first convince a priest who happens to be by the outer ring to be allowed to enter the main settlement, or will face an onslaught of guards at the entry point. Each priest has their own code and decision making process, as the tribe believes that recruiting just a single type of person 'will cause the walls to crumble.' As with many Sanguin tribes, the concept of the soul is very important, and the fear of Soulless ones can lead to priests removing someone from the tribe. Bev tradition believes that all souls should be guided to heaven through a ritual once the body has died, and that if the ritual is mistakenly done when a body is in fact still alive, the soul can only be retrieved the day before the age of seven.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Colourful fabrics and hoods to cover the head are very fashionable to the tribespeople. Unlike other Sanguin tribes who use bolts or bones for jewellery, the Bev Tribespeople prefer cloth. They also admire eyes that are bright, and personalities that are calm and peaceful in nature.
I love the idea of the 'Soulless' - That is such a good idea for taboos etc. I can see the identity of the Bev people really coming through while reading the article. Nice work!
