Althea: People of Note
Arch Dean Kyran Alcazar
Elected by the College of Deans in LN 1279 via near-unanimous vote, Kyran Alcazar is a scholar from Maqqia best known for his dissertations on the complex moral implications of the Rites of Apotheosis. He served as Dean of Practical Science for nearly a decade prior to his accession.
Unbeknownst to all but a select few in Althea, Alcazar assumed not only the highest seat in Althea but also a university's worth of private debt left behind by his predecessor. The prior Arch Dean, Goro Jizan, had surreptitiously accepted large sums of money from the Shogun of Ashimachi in exchange for shifting the university's priorities to pursue solutions to the issues which had brought the Chains faith's Grand Expeditions to a standstill. Only one such solution had been delivered by the time Alcazar took office, and on his inauguration night a representative of Ashimachi's Central Bank approached him in his office to deliver an ultimatum: fulfill Jizan's promises, or repay the remaining balance in full.
Through a series of desperate negotiations, clever manipulation of university ledgers, and finally a blasphemous contravention of one of Althea's founding principles which found him accepting his own bribe money from a visiting group of Aziran merchants, Alcazar was able to pay off his predecessor's debt without anyone in the City of Quilsl being any the wiser. While there is little risk of anyone finding out after the fact, he now has his own debt to address.
