Calava: Map and Physical Layout

Map

Physical Layout
Calava proper can be extremely difficult for visitors and even natives to navigate, owing to its labyrinthine construction. To assist people in making their way around the city each dome’s overhead Lichtstein array hosts colored markers to represent cardinal directions, and clear signage is hung throughout each passageway that links the quartieres to one another. Certain landmarks - usually significant buildings, orchards, or other derivations from the norm - are used by locals to give directions.

The domes are built in a vague spiral radiating outward from the base of the Throat, and are generally listed as follows:

Regio 1

Also known as the Tripointe Executa or Executive Triad, these three domes house Calava’s central government and other executive bodies such as the Custodiate. The Regio is set in the original domes from Calava’s first founding, and features some of the finest mementos in all of Calava -- and thus all of Qarna.

Regio 2

The first new district hewn beyond the original domes, Regio 2 has remained fully agricultural since its excavation. It served as a proving ground for fledgling geomantic technologies, but at the time they proved insufficient for the task. As a result the domes were finished by hand. Despite later corrections using more advanced magic, they display some obvious cosmetic imperfections and suffer from occasional faults in their infrastructure. The Harvest Guild has its headquarters here.

Regio 3

A middle-class residential district which features the headquarters of the Geomancer’s Guild. It also hosts the Zenshima Museum, which displays relics from throughout Calava’s history. Regio 3 also has the largest public park in Calava and an indoor garden. Like Regio 2 this district was partially excavated using human labor.

Regio 4

First excavated in LN627, Regio 4 is regarded as the center of industry in Calava. It boasts both magical and industrial workshops, as well as logistical centers which coordinate the distribution of goods and services throughout the Regii by way of a primitive rail system inspired by Drachenkrone’s. The River Spindaris runs beneath Regio 4, heading north to Drachenkrone and south to Kansujian, so the district also handles imports and exports. The Susciere headquarters was built here, due to ease of access to rapid transportation.

Regio 5

The smallest district in Calava, Regio 5 was built to accommodate luxury housing for Calava’s upper class citizens and also provides educational infrastructure for the same population. Representing some of the newest domes in Calava, Regio 5 was entirely constructed through sorcerous workings and features some of the most advanced infrastructure in the city.

Regio 6

A tandem agricultural and low-income housing district built as an expansion of Regio 2, Regio 6 is a popular destination for many Calavans due to its down-to-earth cuisine, assortment of bars and taverns, and a casino run by a Kansujian expatriate named Yana Takeuchi. It is also the home of the Redivivei, containing several sealed domes to accommodate their work in waste management, recycling, and composting. Like Regio 5, Regio 6 was constructed by sorcerous workings and so its lower-class population enjoys near-flawless infrastructure and roads.

Satellite Towns

Outside the city proper is a small collection of mining towns dotting the mountainscape, interconnected by winding roads built from hewed hexagonal stone blocks underlaid with magma piping to prevent them from freezing over. These roads primarily facilitate local traffic- international travel and trade are mostly conducted on the River Spindaris, which runs underground and so protects ships’ occupants from the hostile weather above ground.
