Elamyar

Elamyar is one of the largest few islands on the Misty Reach, and one of the few that involved in the founding of the Coalition. It's positioned about two-thirds down the eastern edge of the Misty Reach, just south of the primary Western entry point to the Inner Currents. A good majority of Elamyar is of wood elven heritage, though there's a sizable mixing of high elves, half-elves, humans, halflings, and other common Coalition races in the midst.   As one of the founding nations of the Coalition, the Elamyar family is one of the eight Coalition noble houses - but while the rest of the founding nations either look up to or secretly bear resentment toward the ones representing their country's involvement in the Coalition, Elamyar largely does its best to ignore them. Internationally, the Elamyar family mirrors its home country's reputation in its lackadaisical tendencies, but it occasionally adds in a dash of a cruelty and refusal to take responsibility for how its actions impact those beneath them.   When you step onto Elamyar, you're no longer a stranger; you're a part of the family just as much as everyone else, expected to share in the delights as well as the responsibilities as much as you're able. You'll cause friction if you don't know what to do or otherwise refuse, but if you follow along, you'll be greeted almost as fondly as a longtime resident. Elamyaran culture tends to mirror this sense of sharing in both the highs and lows of life together, raising children communally, providing education and services to all based on ability, sharing non-sentimental property with the common joke of "pass it back when you're done" and the knowledge that you'll likely never see it again, and more. The entire community of any particular Elamyaran city mourns the passing of any members together weekly, praising the birth of any new children or the yearly anniversary of any person's birth on the day after. The most well-regarded members of society go out of their way to do more than their party while the lowest-regarded members contribute as little as possible. In some cases, this can lead to some disdain toward those unable to contribute as much, but well-respected community members do their best to set this straight.

Government

Elamyar's government is informal at best, most closely resembling a direct democracy. Its settlements trade off bureaucratic duties yearly, letting whichever settlement is designated as the ruler for that year take care of Coalition business. While the entire island produces a variety of crops, maintaining a mostly agricultural economy, the settlement responsible for organizing trade similarly cycles yearly. Each settlement can range from a few hundred people to a few thousand depending on the city, so smaller settlements often band together. Mob justice is a definite problem in parts of the country, though the potential for escalation keeps most justice from getting too extreme, the most extreme crimes resulting in permanent banishment from all settlements on the island.
