The Midsummer Moonlight Festival

The Midsummer Moonlight Festival was originally founded to commemorate the coming of Summer for the Myconids dwelling deep within the Underdark.

Long after their migration towards the upper layers, during the creation of Carrion, a new event began to fascinate travelers that the Myconids took no notice of. For those unaware, winds blow through the caverns of the lower layers, whether there's an opening or not, as if trapped beneath the earth by some mysterious force. As these winds travel in search of freedom something special occurs.

On the 10th day of the 3rd Tenday of Kythorn, when the moon is at its peak and Selune's light pierces through the earth creating a translucent visage of the blue moon. The winds of the Underdark billow out, guided towards freedom they release a cacophonous symphony that emanates out from their silent compatriots that line our homes and gardens. The plants of Carrion serenade their friends and all that come to wish them luck on their journey. It's customary for those who wish to travel away from home to spend time with friends and family throughout the festival drinking, playing games, and feasting. Then once the melodies begin, they travel through the night knowing when they wish to return the winds of Carrion will lead them home safely.

Components and tools

It is customary for observers to grow an offering plant known as Seinflurs (Singing Flowers). Typically carrying them around in small pots throughout the festival, participants would hold them aloft during the ceremony to hear them greet their new friends. Afterwards they would be planted outside their homes for citizens or outside the city by travelers.

Participants

The Myconids will spend the month of Kythorn paying particular attention to the local flora surrounding Carrion to ensure they are healthy and capable of surviving the high winds during the festival.

The citizens begin the week beforehand fortifying their homes and belongings helping neighbors hand in hand to ensure everyone will be safe during the event.
