AIs can be found throughout space. They can vary greatly but can generally be identified on a scale of intelligence. They can be assistants, guides, pets, teachers, combatants, and more. If you decided to buy one though you are more likely to come across a less sentient "buddy" AI which is dependent upon your commands. The term "buddy" refers to the generally trusting easygoing nature of these AI. But no matter which AI you have it's important you understand what it can do.
AIs can generally be purchased in a common marketplace, but it's likely these wouldn't be the rarest of the AI. To find AI that can fight for you or automatically fill roles in a ship you will have to look harder. Some expensive AI can be found at corporation stores while some can be acquired in secret backroom deals.
AI Information
Purchasing an AI is simply buying the AI's core. It's no bigger than a coin. This is the brain of the AI and all you need if you want to simply plug it into a console or ship. If this is destroyed then so is your AI. Recovering a destroyed AI is a tricky process and requires a specific set of skills. So it's best to be safe and purchase a chassis for your AI as well.
A chassis is a machine body for your AI to inhabit while not directly interfacing with a larger system. They come in different shapes and sizes. They even give unique actions to your AI and a little more independence. Some are simply spider-like bodies, while others are hovering drones. If your AI's chassis is destroyed there is a good chance the core is still fine and can be extracted unharmed.
You can only command a
maximum of 1 AI in combat. An AI without commands will give you no benefits in combat.
AI Cores
As the brain of the AI, the core is where the personality, consciousness, and memory are stored. This determines how your AI interacts with you. All AI can vocally communicate and physically communicate with text messages. Some AI have special virtual avatars programmed for their appearance. These avatars may change with the AI's evolution as it adventures with you.
An AI Cores is very sensitive and not too durable. Its type classification determines how many hit points the core has when exposed.

If a core's maximum hit points ever reach 0 the core is considered destroyed and becomes inactive.
Lastly, AI Core's can't benefit you or interact with you unless they are plugged into a device. This device can be their chassis, a datapad, a ship, or even you with the right Augmentations. As long as the device has the "Linkport" type.
Assistant Core
Type: Support, Social, Common
An Assistant AI is a common sight among researchers and scholars. They can take notes, send messages, and more. They all around fill the role of the perfect assistant. They have the following benefits:
- Anytime its owner makes a skill roll they receive a +1 to the total.
- This AI can speak and understand every known vocal language.
AI Chassis
The Chassis is the body of your AI. The chassis determines the hit points, actions, and mobility of your AI. Some chassis provide a great deal of interaction with the AI's surrounding while others are simply protective devices for the core. Make sure you pay attention to the prerequisite of each chassis. Some require specific types of cores while others are very general with the core they accept.
Generally, AI in chassis can only perform the actions listed in their descriptions unless otherwise specified.
When a Chassis's hitpoints reach 0 the AI isn't destroyed. The core is still protected inside the Chassis. However, if a destroyed chassis is attacked the hit points of the core will take the damage instead.
When an AI in a working Chassis is making a defensive roll, such as when rolling a skill challenge, they add their
Defense Bonus instead of a skill or ability value.

The Egg
Type: Simple, Defensive, Small, Linkport
Prerequisite: None
This tends to be the first Chassis any AI owner buys. It's a highly protective shell that protects the AI while always floating next to its owner. It also happens to look a lot like an egg.

The Fly
Type: Simple, Recon, Small, Linkport
Prerequisite: None
The fly is a decent choice for new AI owners wanting a bit more mobility. They just have to be careful where they fly. The light chassis of the Fly makes it quick but easily overwhelmed.
