CD Session 2: Not Our Problem Report

General Summary

Call Out the Guards

Abel Black  and Kane Drummer begin the session in Kane's ancestral home, in the city of Sana. The alarm bells are ringing in the palace, and soldiers are beginning to chase people down in the streets. The results of the assassination attempt are unknown at this point, but the party speculates that the presence of the soldiers in the street means the threat within the palace has been neutralized. Abel takes the aircar back to the downport and finagles access to the starship, just in case they need big weapons.   A unit of guardsmen systematically inspects the street, kicking in doors and sending people off to jail. Kane confronts them in hopes of diverting attention (and potential harm) from his family. The captain tries to arrest him, but Abel shows up in the Gauntlet, hovering over the scene in an intimidating fashion. He decides to continue playing both sides of the conflict and claims to be serving the Sur, offering to take the soldiers to the rebels' hideout.

The Rebels

On the short flight to the hideout, Kane uses his night vision goggles to detect plumes of dust in the canyons. It's the rebels, riding their smuggled motorcycles back to the hideout. Abel contacts them and warns against going back to their base. The leader of the rebels relays news that Kasim is dead, and says they will no longer be in touch. The rebels disperse into the benighted canyons.   The ship lands at the Ruined Hydroponic Factory Farm and Abel realizes that Keith is still there. He's frightened and confused by the broken reports he's heard over his radio. Kane helps the young man hide as the soldiers disembark and sneaks him aboard as they search the base. Abel uses his silver tongue to convince Keith his best hope lies in joining the crew for the time being.

The Sur

The crew learns from the captain that the Sur lives, but his son was killed in the crossfire. Abel and Kane keep up their ruse, returning the soldiers to the palace grounds with newly-collected evidence. The Gauntlet is commandeered by the military for a week of fruitless searching, but only cold traces of rebel camps are found. Eventually, the Sur calls the crew before him (minus Omar and Keith). The man is broken, his previously keen mind clouded. He tells the crew in no uncertain terms that if they return here, their ship will be taken again.   The Gauntlet is allowed to leave after the newly-repaired moisture collector is gifted to Kane's family. The ship makes orbit and puts out advertisements on the local net: one for hiring a pilot, and one for 11 Steerage berths available on a flight to Astynar System. (The 12th rack is for Keith, since a pilot would occupy the 4th crew stateroom.

The Future

Due to his interactions with the local soldiers, and the guard captain, aboard ship this past week, Abel finds his skill as a Steward has improved. Kane has kept to himself, passing time and thinking on his experiences. The crew has received an application for the pilot position, as yet unopened. The passenger slots are filled, meaning the Gauntlet will have to dock again at Heaviside Station to pick them up. The crew currently has a Spike Drive rutter to OMD 62-18 which is just over a week old, but when they arrive they'll have to locate a Jump 2 route map to Astynar.

Rewards Granted

No additional monetary rewards, but the Gauntlet is free to leave the planet.
