Leo Prime

Overview

Leo Prime is a dead shell of a world. The toxic environment makes it one of the most difficult planetary environments in the sector for humans to exist for a protracted period of time. The sole draw of this world is the Pretech treasure trove hidden under the deadly blanket of its atmosphere.

History

Leo Prime is the former capital of Leo Omega. This world was heavily populated at the time of the Scream, but, through some unknown disaster during the Silence, the planet turned into a toxic hellhole with a corrosive and invasive atmosphere. With no support from the home world and an overwhelming burden of local problems to survive, Leo Prime was unable to maintain the control it once had.

Biosphere

There is no known naturally-occurring life left on Leo Prime. The world did, in fact, have a vibrant biosphere in the Mandate era, but there was nothing left after the disaster. We do know that the event occurred relatively quickly, ecologically speaking, due to the mostly-intact remains of plants in places the corrosive atmosphere cannot reach (for example, deep root systems). Some scientists speculate there may still be subterranean ecologies still surviving, but little research funding has been forthcoming for studies of Leo Prime.

Culture

Today, the population is primarily composed of a loose coalition of nomadic groups scouring the surface for Pretech caches and pockets of resources. Their mobile habitats crawl across the surface to avoid the worst of the toxic storms. The fusion reactors for these tribes are supplied by a gas mine orbiting the local gas giant, but this outpost is the last remnant of the former hegemon. Some of the scavenger nomads harbor hopes of rediscovering some kind of Pretech or other symbol legitimizing their claims to original Mandate authority. Other powers in the sector generally dismiss these wild ideas, but it's possible there are enough hidden Mandate bases with caches of equipment and tech to transform the holder into a sector-wide power overnight.

Places

There is a debris field orbiting the planet which is believed to be the remains of a Jump Gate.
