Dark Horizons Orbital Penitentiary
Dark Horizons Orbital Penitentiary is a privately owned and operated penal station in orbit above the planet of Emralda. It is owned by the pervasive-yet-enigmatic corporation, Primaris, who take no qualms in using the inmates as unpaid labor for their products. In particular, Dark Horizons inmates are utilized in the production of robotic components for many of Primaris' self-automated service droids. Perhaps ironically, these components often find their way into sentry droids, who are then sent and stationed on Dark Horizons as a form of peacekeepers for the station.
The sentries are all connected to a single server bank which houses the V.I. entity known as The Warden. As cold and calculating as its programming, The Warden runs the prison with ruthless efficiency. One advantage of utilizing a V.I. is the removal of any and all emotional roadblocks in the way of maximum turnover and labor efficiency. Lethal force, though supposedly reserved as a last resort, has been authorized for it's use in keeping the prisoners in line. In practicality, it is not uncommon for an inmate to be pulled from his duties in order to attend to cleaning up the corridors or Jeffries Tubes at the location of the last escape attempt.
As of this time, Dark Horizons boasts an impressive track record: not a single escape attempt has succeeded. The only way any prisoners leave the station is in body bags, whether that be from a failed escape attempt, overworking, or just plain old age.
Demographics
Mixed; Primaris opens it's penitentiary gates to any governing body willing to pay the fee to "dispose" of their criminals. Dark Horizons, due to the nature of its production, generally takes in those of a higher intellect, though there are those of lesser intelligence on station as well.
Government
The Warden runs everything in regards to the station, from anti-personnel measures to life support, from sentry cloud-processing to basic utilities. In effect, The Warden is an ever present god with control of almost everything aboard the station.
Defences
Dark Horizons is lightly armed from the outside in, and is heavily defensible from the inside out. A pair of Flak Emitter Batteries are stationed at the cardinal points along the rim of the station, and at both poles is a single torpedo launcher. Within it's walls, however, dual laser turrets line each corridor, and at every corridor junction are turreted spike throwers. Heavy bulkhead walls protect the station from any shots fired within its walls, and 2-ft thick dense-alloy bulkheads can be triggered to lower every 50ft. in case of accidental breach, or in order to keep rioting inmates from spreading to other areas of the station.
Industry & Trade
Penal services and rehabilitory labor programs
Assets
The only assets kept on station are the products produced by the inmates and the raw materials required. Every few weeks a shipment of more material arrives, and leaves with any completed components. New inmates arrive at sporadic intervals.
Guilds and Factions
Black Wire Gang: The preeminent chainyard gang of the station, the Black Wires and their leader, Steffi Gotthelm, see to it that any civil disturbances are handled before raising the ire of the Warden. The gang is known to care for their fellow inmates, albeit with a tough love approach to most situations. After all, "Ain't no one gettin' off'a this station alive."
