The Ascension of St. Hideo

The Ascension of St. Hideo, often referred to as just The Ascension, is a piece of artwork depicting the moment of Sainthood and Ascension of Hideo through the eyes of his disciple, Slavator Gregorovich.   The piece itself depicts Hideo standing in a valley, arms held aloft towards a soft blue light in the sky. In one hand he holds a dawn-flower, the traditional symbol of peace in the Alpha Sector and a symbol of conquest for those of the Gamma Sector. In his other hand, a survival knife; a tool to both take and preserve life. The fields around him are alight in flame, representing the chaos and decadent immorality of the societal norms of the time.     Style: Classical Neo-Revisionist   Media: Electro-pigmentation on Aluminum

Significance

The artwork is traditionally credited to the Artisan-saint Salvator Gregorovich, friend and disciple of St. Hideo. He is known for his religious artwork, and most often in the medium of electro-pigmentation. However, there is some controversy as to whether or not he actually produced the piece; art scholars and historians note a distinct difference in certain details of The Ascension that do not consistently match that of his other works.   Gregorovich himself never claimed the work as his own, seeing as how he passed away shortly before it's discovery. The piece was found in the cargo hold of an illicit smuggling freighter, along with many other items known to belong to the man (along with other religious artefacts relating to St. Hideo.)   In addition, many interpretations of the meaning of The Ascension exist, most often centering around the moral quandary of the use of violence to maintain peace. Some hold that St. Hideo's pacifism was what lead to his Sainthood. Others believe that in the twilight hours of his life the man realized the hollow inefficacy of the stance, and it was the journey of discovery and the willingness to be corrected that instead raised him.

Raw materials & Components
The Ascension was created through masterful application of electro-pigmentation. A piece of electrically-conductive material, in this case lightweight aluminum, is coated in electro-pigments (fine powders that, when a current is run through, fuse to the "canvas" and change color). Primary pigments used included various Thorn Melon grindings and novium alloy flakes.
