Corith Penal Pens

While the world of Corith Secundus boasts a substantial population, the massive penal population would pose a significant risk to the free population and overwhelm the world if left unchecked. Therefore, in order to control both the flow and containment of prisoners to the planet the orbital ring was repurposed to house and control the global prison population.

Infrastructure

While originally built after the Scouring in M32, its role as a prison wasn't repurposed until the Age of Apostasy. During this period, the mining and hab units located within the ring were converted to house the massive influx of prisoners. What was originally designed to expedite the export of mineral and chemical wealth now was a method of control. This can be seen in the large orbital elevators that run from the ring to the planets surface now largely being a means of ferrying prisoners to their designated workcamps rather than solely moving mineral resources into orbit.

Districts

With the rings transformation into an orbital prison for overflow of what cannot be contained on the surface. Each section of the ring was rebuilt to ease control of its charges. The ring is broken into sixty cell blocks, each housing its own guard quarters, administration, medical, prisoner housing, and other necessary functions to operate independently of the other blocks. This is done to not only ensure uniformity, but in the event of a riot, a block can be isolated from its fellow blocks with minimal impact to the system as a whole.   While the ring overall has the same functions in each block, it is consequently organized to properly house like offending criminals and administer each accordingly. Blocks 01 to 16 are for various minor offenses such as infractions, misdemeanors and non-violent felonies. Of all the blocks, these are the only prisoners that possibly see freedom and release into society on Corith Secundus. Blocks 17 to 30 are for violent crime and are heavily patrolled. These prisoners are usually only entrusted with the most dangerous of mining operations in order to help "control" their population. Blocks 31 to 57 are for renegades, heretics, and political dissidents. These prisoners are sent to chemical filtration and collection as while the work is equally as dangerous to the previous set of blocks, there are far fewer ways for the prisoners to weaponize their necessary work equipment. Block 58 and 59 house the penal regiments to receive minimal training and eventually be sent out to one of the warzones within the sub-sector and beyond. Finally, Block 60 houses only the worst criminals, recidivists, and abominations the sub-sector has to offer and is under the sole jurisdiction of theĀ  Inquisition. None are allowed to enter or exit this block without inquisitorial ident and written need for access. It is also the only block that has had its orbital elevator permanently severed from the surface.
