Ijhefsy

A small asteroid, thought to be a "lost" moon knocked out of the orbit of its planet in the Faanis system. The Faanis system is a "border" system at the edge of the very populated Inner Systems and the new frontier of the Outer Systems. Ijhefsy serves as a service station for passing ships.

Party Town

Many exploration vessels, bounty-hunting crews, and long-haul truckers stop in Ijhefsy for shore leave to blow off some steam and the businesses on the asteroid are more than happy to oblige. Bars, nightclubs, casinos, fighting pits, racing tracks, and brothels dominate Ijhefsy's lands and set the tone of the settlement.

The Duality of the Borderlands

Ijhefsy belongs to no government and is unaligned with interstellar organisations. Depending on the direction of its visitor's travel, the asteroid is either seen as a lawless, chaotic rock at the start of the "wild west" of the frontier, or a hopeful. artificial light in the dark marking the return to civilisation. As such, Ijhefsy bubbles with a strange, excited energy. Bounty hunters and treasure hunters exchange information and take on jobs, legal and illegal. Fighting pits and betting rings run rampant. The black market thrives alongside more conventional stores. Tired expeditionaries enjoy open space, beds on solid ground, and the company of people outside their crews. Ships refuel, restock, and move on, and Ijhefsy never sleeps.

Inimical Landscape

Ijhefsy is cold, rocky, and wet. Heavy red rain, coloured by metal dust from the asteroid's surface, often lashes down. When it doesn't, thick fog, coloured by the settlement's abrasive neon lights blankets everyone and everything. The man-made architecture is gothic and imposing, looming high above the streets. Ijhefsy also has prominent steep cliffs and a surface pocketed with meteor craters, making traversing on foot in the fog particularly perilous.

The Jellyfish Pit

Ijhefsy's nickname, The Jellyfish Pit, comes in two parts. Firstly, the asteroid leaves a trail of purple and grey space dust behind it as it travels, giving the illusion of the sea creature's tendrils but the name truly comes from Ijhefsy's lawless nature. While visitors may be accustomed to some of Ijhefsy's leisure activities such as betting, they are also accustomed to rules that the denizens of the asteroid do not follow. In most cases, visitors leave with their wallets and pride stung. In the worst cases, visitors cross the wrong lines and end up in debt to dangerous people, stranded on the asteroid, enslaved, or even dead.
