The Ebony Serpent

The Ebony Serpent is more than a person, it is a being from beyond the material plane that inhabits hosts within the material plane to do its bidding. The title of Ebony Serpent is not simply passed down from one leader to the next, it must be earned and the serpent must choose its new host. The host and leader do not know it is possessed and nor do the syndicate members below it.
The Ebony Serpent's leadership style can be described as calculated patience mixed with strategic foresight, constantly operating 10 steps ahead of everyone orchestrating the syndicate operations like a seasoned maestro. Every time you think you've bested the Ebony Serpent, you soon realize you've fallen into the serpents trap with its fangs gripping your soul.
There are many rumors about the Ebony Serpent, a few of the most common are: some say they were once a high-ranking official in the kings court of the local nation, others say they were a slave that escaped the clutches of their owners and devoted their wrath into creating The Obsidian Syndicate, one claim is that they are a incredibly powerful sorcerer that has risen from the depths of despair and unlocked the mysteries of the world allowing them to ascend to such a title. In all truth, these are all true stories of the various Ebony Serpents that have headed this organization and that truth may never come to light, for the serpent simply cannot allow it.
Despite the elusive nature of the Ebony Serpent, they do commonly communicate amongst the locals of Port Obsidian under the guise of a simple trader, beggar, or traveller. Always walking amongst us is the serpent; eternally searching for one very specific mystery, but we can't just go spoiling that for you.
