The year is AFTER CALAMITY [A.C.] 995.

A millennium ago, the distant star KALIBURN – birthplace of humanity – disappeared from the night sky. It was as if an unseen hand had simply flicked a switch and the light went out. It took years for the shockwave to finally reach us; a cleansing fire from the hearth that once kept us warm suddenly plunged humanity back into the dark ages.   But our spark is not so easily extinguished. We arose from the ashes and ascended – back into the vast reaches of space. There we built new homes for ourselves – enormous, entirely self-sustaining space colonies designed to closely simulate planetside conditions. We somewhat cheekily decided to call them HABITATS. To help maintain these massive constructions, we developed colossal, humanoid machines which we named DEXTRA. Originally conceived as powered exosuits for station repairs, their astounding versatility led to Dextra being inextricably linked to colonial industry – and eventually combat. It wasn’t long before they became yet another weapon to fuel the ravenous engine of a galaxy-spanning civil war.   Though so much time had passed, humanity had not changed. As war once again raged through space, a new breed of soldiers piloted machines that looked like them, only vaguely aware of the mordant implications. After 5 years of bloodshed, the fighting has come to a standstill. A tenuous ceasefire holds the fate of the galaxy on a string. Newscasters repeat what’s on everyone’s minds: How long will this fragile peace last?   We used to look up at the stars and imagine endless possibilities; now, floating in the infinite void, we are propelled towards the realization that they are only what we bring to them.
