Clohdus' Athletes
Clohdus' Athletes, or Fpriclohdus əksewak, are a religious sect completely devoted to the worship of the Tekel god of chaos, Clohdus. This god stands in contrast to the deity of order and creation, Padka. Scholars have debated their exact relationship, with some claiming a sibling bond, others a father-son interaction, and still others an idea that they are somehow lovers. A small branch considers them to actually be the same being, a primordial god that was split into two aspects of itself. However, this theory is not popular among Tekel practitioners.
During their worship, the athletes engage in a game that has spread beyond the group itself. They will don masks and must play a large game of improv. The masks themselves are blank and they must adhere to the character they are given upon their first conversation. From there, each successive conversation they have is a new character. Others have taken this game and a slightly more secular version has been played among the people of Yzel for decades.
From a religious standpoint, the group hopes to imitate their patron's association with spontaneity, nonconformity, and freedom. Their goal is to minimize their connection to themselves and fully live in the spirit of chaos their god rules over.
The organization is considered monstrous by some in the Tekel religion due to a misunderstanding of the religious rules of their version of the game. In contrast to the publicly accepted version, the type played by the athletes lasts for an entire day instead of only a few hours, the participants cannot remove their masks for any reason, they cannot answer to their birth names, and they cannot leave the worship venue. This has led people to believe that identities are being stripped away during these meetings and replaced by something else. The practitioners are also secretive in regard to when they have their ceremonies due to the fear that the secular will intrude. This has led to more distrust regarding the athletes and further animosity within them toward mainstream Tekel practitioners.
