Diver's Root

Diver's Root is an air essence magic item used by the Marn people on the northern shore of Eoion. It is made from a fungus that grows along the shore, particularly in caves close to the water's edge. 
The plant itself contains many pockets within its leaves and mushroom heads that air can infest. This air is then used by the plant when the cave floods in order to continue growth. The Marn have used the fungus for centuries in order to breathe under water and commune with the Okenumi that live around them. This has allowed the Marn to become very close with the subspecies of Ilyannoi.
In particular, they use the root in fishing. The Okenumi work with the Marn to find large fish species deep within the water. To allow themselves to dive deep enough to attack the sea creatures, the Marn will bring pieces of the root with them in a small pouch at their sides. When they need to breathe, they chew on the fungus, breaking the air pockets and allowing them to take the air in for themselves.
Over the centuries, various cael-esh have succeeded in increasing the air storage capacity of the fungus and breeding new variants. The modern incarnation of Diver's Root is a combination of the original fungus, air essence magic, and a few other herbs for taste.
Sailors from Yzel have heard of the root and have tried for many centuries to either buy it or steal the recipe for themselves.

Raw materials & Components

The root is composed mainly of a fungus native to Svantei Gansen. Along with this, essence magic is used to force more air into the natural pockets of the fungus. Lastly, various herbs are combined with the main root to enhance the taste and longevity of the food.
