Eoion Military

Overview

Before the rise of Ilya Shiroko and the foundation of the empire the kingdom of Eoion was one of several who had allied together in order to defend themselves from Yzel, the largest kingdom on the continent.
The army was composed of troops enlisted from the various counties within the kingdom. Each year, there would be volunteers who joined and these were controlled by the main military leadership in the capitol, under the king. When there were not enough volunteers to fill the three year quota, a draft would take place in order to fill the ranks. The place of nobility in the military was that of, usually, officers. With the education and time to learn strategy, they were often placed in charge of platoons of commoners. In this way, nobility gained prestige as commanders. Having a member of the family in the military was considered a source of honor.
After Ilya Shiroko, subsequently Emperor Ilya I, developed the Ilyannoi, the military changed drastically. The creatures became an ever expanding presence within the military and their genetic loyalty to the royal family made them very different from the human troops.
Over the years, the Ilyannoi procreated and more were created as well by the Shiroko Dynasty. They became integrated into the military, with different branches partnering with various subspecies for their work. Soldiers became very familiar with the creatures and the ties between the military and royal family grew very deep due to the Ilyannoi.
The military does not act as a civilian police force, but is only concerned with external threats. Instead, they only assist the police if there is something that they cannot handle. The only location where the military is the dominant internal defensive force is the Gandenye where the elite Wenutsuekul Gandayan Zitsoeii are tasked with protecting the royal family.

Divisions

The Eoin military is divided into several subsections, some who work with the Ilyannoi extremely closely and others who do not.

• Rider Corps- these troops are some of the most elite outside of the Natsuekul Gandayan Zitsoeii. Their main focus is the patrol of both the border and internal area of the empire. • Border Guard- both Ilyannoi and humans guard the border between Yzel and Eoion. Generally, they are large cat-like creatures and bow wielding humans. They are responsible for checking those that come in and out of the empire.
• Wenunùdzì- human spies are employed the ruler and the department reports directly to them. The spies are mostly human, but small Ilyannoi were introduced by Taras Shiroko in 1070 and are used extensively both internally and externally.
• Navy- Eoion has a small navy that is mostly concerned with protecting their northern island territories. They defend merchants as necessary as well and work with sea based Ilyannoi when in the north, but not when going south toward Yzelian waters.
• Army- This is the bulk of the Eoin military. It is composed of volunteer and drafted troops composed of both the commoner classes and the nobility. Most do not work with the Ilyannoi directly and are responsible for maintaining bases and vehicles and assisting in border protection and civilian policing.
• Wenutsuekul Gandayan Zitsoeii- The imperial guard who protects the Gandenye and royal family.
