Zanhan Kueshi

Court sponsored poet. Zanhan was born into a lower noble family who lived on the eastern end of the empire. He was the second born and thus would not inherit his family’s lands. Along with this, he was less interested in the politics of the empire and more in poetry. His talent did not come through until his late twenties when he won four contests in one year. This launched his career and he became a local celebrity. Even since the reign of Catarin I, there had been a court sponsored poet. However, the previous holder of that position had recently retired, leaving a vacancy. Yakiv Shiroko  was given one of his poems by a friend who had visited the area and fell in love with his style. He showed it to Olha Shiroko  who also found it moving and she invited Zanhan to the palace. Since then, he has remained as the court poet.
