Congregation of Valor

Mythology & Lore

It is widely believed that Sentius was born from the union of two energies: the nurturing and the wrathful; nature and vengance; beauty and powress; determination and might. These two forces then took the form of the two gods of Sentius: Eldath and Dagon. Working with Fate, Eldath sculpted the earth and all that grew while Dagon crafted storms, fires, rain, snow, droughts, bounties that would cultivate the growth. From their shared work, mortal life on Sentius grew and mortal beings and beasts were born. Eldath focused on prolonging their survival while Dagon wanted to temper their wills: to use them to endure and survive. The First Age ended with the two energies taking corporeal form, Eldath's gift of magic and the departure of the two beings from The Material Plane. Dagon gradually gained more and more might and energy as the anguish and suffering of The Material Plan increased, causing an explosion of energy after the defeat of Tiamat and the birth of Morgoth.

Divine Origins

A personified form of energies in the world, Dagon is the deity of the Congregation of Valor. What was once intangible and chaotic energy in the First Age, the Congregation was founded at the end of the Second upon the destruction of Tiamat. The Congregation believes in the manifestation of Dagon granting them victory and prowess.

Tenets of Faith

The Ardor of the Sun offers guidance for followers of Dagon and tools for survival. One common practice is for followers to bring a weapon to the Altar of Dagon where a plot of soil has been prepared. The person drives the weapon into the soil, performing the Rite of Devotion. This act of prayer and communion is a way to reach Dagon and ask for their favor, no matter what the obstacle may be.

Ethics

it is expected that those with unwavering loyalty stand beside each other to uphold Dagon's expectations. It is sinful to go back on one's word, to flee conflict, or to betray those close to you. Close followers of Dagon do not like to leave a problem unresolved or a promise unfullfilled.

Worship

Another widely recieved religion across all of Sentius. As strength and power can be associated in many aspects of life, there is a lot of interpreation that comes with reading The Ardor of the Sun. While Dagon is more closely associated with war and destruction---having recieved the name of The Child of War---they are not one who actively encourages fighting right away. Worshippers are cautioned to show restraint, patience, but also prove their strength and might when the time calls for it.

Priesthood

Priests of Dagon are often retired or veteran warriors who have seen more than enough fighting. Their leader is often selected by Dagon themselves through the Rite of Devotion. Whoever has their weapon unsplintered becomes the new Unbreakable, the highest of their order.

Granted Divine Powers

Those granted with Dagon's blessing of valor can call upon his might in a time of great need. This blesses his chosen with unfathomable strength, power, and energy, often killing those who use this blessing from the stress it puts upon their body.
