Lore
Native to the North East of the Southern Shelf with small pockets of them residing in Farshore Piscari are fishlike humanoids mainly resembling sharks. They stand on average anywhere between 6 to 8 feet tall making them one of the taller races in the Known World.
The appearance of Piscari varies massively between different individuals with some resembling different types of sharks with others appearing like other forms of aquatic life the main trait they all share is their large Semi Aquatic and several rows of teeth making them a formidable foe in and out of water.
Piscari society is based on family and clan – and although females can and do wield power they are patriarchal. Chieftains rule, but in a benign and loose fashion rather than with an iron fist. Families or individuals may own their dwelling but most other property is held in common. Such communal ownership means theft is almost unknown.
The Piscari tribes tend to migrate between the ocean and land depending on the time of year it is unknown to all but the oldest of Piscari as of why they do this.
The cultures and traditions of Piscari tribes varied from tribe to tribe and region to region but a number of traits are common across several tribes.
Sharkfolk have little empathy or pity for adults who can't take care of themselves but they treat and take care of the injured and sick. Permanently injured Piscari are still expected to contribute in every way that they can.
Arts and crafting in Piscari culture are limited by the resources they have to hand in the oceans. As a result, Piscari are skilled in crafts like tanning, stitching, creating simple pottery, bone-carving. Piscari art is rare but expressive. Art is one of the few things that Piscari understand to be non-competitive; they fully appreciated that art can't have a winner. Sharkfolk believed that art should be used to show people something they couldn't see in the real world. Piscari decorate their caves, weapons, and clothes with abstract designs (often jagged, parallel lines and symbols that had astronomical significance).
