Alcohol & Economics - Freedom is a Length of Rope - Part 1

“You mean you’ve died before?” Sean passed a roll of gauze to Crypt, who only glared at him.

“Of course I’ve fucking died before, I’m an angel. We don’t live forever, and reincarnation is such a messy business. It’s easier on daemons, because their souls are basically freeze dried and don’t deteriorate. It’s why you can find undead angels but never daemons,” He explained, wincing as Deceit removed the bullet from his chest a bit harsher than really needed.

“You cursed.”

“Undead angels aren’t held to the same rules as living ones.” Deceit informed Sean, taking care to clean the wound as quickly as possible.

“What about Titus, does that mean he’s dead- uhm, Undead, too?” This whole business of dead and not quite dead things confused Sean more than it actually worried him, and Newt was beginning to think that the human may have been a bit more mentally unhinged than he’d been aware. Or perhaps the damage had been caused by the excessive amount of time spent in the company of Deceit. Both were very viable options.

“No- or, well, not yet, at least. He’ll kick the bucket if Crypt actually dies, though.” Reyna assured Sean, taking a few extra seconds to tap Newt on the head with a book, a little bit more forcefully than necessary. Newt only glared at the Jinn in response, biting back any less than gentlemanly retorts that scratched at his throat.

“Twin angels are probably one of the worst ideas in the colorful history of bad ideas.”

“I’m sure Brendan and Cami would agree with you on that.” Deceit muttered, taking care to properly sew Crypt’s chest back up. “Take it easy, there’s still some fragments there and if they shred your heart we’re going to have some problems.”

“Brendan and Cami? Tell me you aren’t talking about Brendan and Cameron Dare, the jackasses that wrecked heaven that ended in the damnation of almost a hundred nuns, at least.”

“That’s not even the best part of what they did, okay.” Reyna tried to stifle a smile at Cete’s praise of the two hellions that had torn the Heavenly Plain apart in less than forty-eight hours.

“Well, where else do you think they went? Neither Ra or Osiris wanted them, and they were my problem before they died, so they just kind of gave them back as cheap labor to keep trouble to a minimum.”

“Can I meet them?” Crypt looked like a small child in a candy shop to Reyna when Deceit finally nodded in agreement.
