Hell Reverse - Part 14

28, First April

"We've been able to process this group so far." Raphael gestured to a tower of blue folders.

"It's a start," Edmund informed him. "Still a long way to go, however."

"How many more?" Raphael asked, closing another folder. He looked warily at the tower, which was beginning to sway under the weight. He placed it beside the stack, starting another pile.

"We'll be spending months cleaning this up." Edmund responded.

"That many people passed on?" Uriel was surprised. He squinted at the poorly drawn map of the Lower Districts, trying to figure out how so many people managed to live in such a small space.

"The Districts affected were slums- people packed tight, transients-"

"Then why are we working this so hard?" Edmund threw a folder on the desk, effectively giving up.

"What do you mean?" Uriel looked between Edmund's face, and his boot. It was rather rude to use expensive tables as foot stools, and yet...

"They're transients- thieves, con artists, criminals."

"That doesn't make them any less important." Raphael pushed Edmund's boot off the table and took the folder it had been on top of. Dusting off the cover, he looked up again. "Everyone has value."

"'Sides. They'll get here eventually. The more we process, the shorter time they spend waiting, and less we have to do later." Uriel signed off on a couple red folders, watching as they slowly turned blue before setting them aside.

"You have a fair point." Edmund sighed. "It's still ridiculous that realm based magiks require processing by hand."

"Can you use another set of eyes?" The light sound of bells and swish of fabric caught the attention of the trio.

"M-my Lady-"

"Save it," St. Nicholas held up his hand. "The sooner these souls are processed, the sooner they can find peace."

"Or begin the next stage of their journey." Laverna amended, settling into an empty chair and taking a pen.
