Demura

Spirit Mursi, we thank you for us to communicate with our loved ones in the afterlife. Spirit Elici, we pray that [insert name here]'s body will not decay, so it may be used as the conduit for that communication.
— Traditional Scyll funerary prayer
Demura is the Scyll ritual of mummification.

History

Since Nimbus is covered in swamps and deserts, mummification occurs naturally if the body is exposed in a suitable area. The formal practice dates from prehistoric times and is believed to have come from watching this process. Originally, only kings and priests went through this process after they died. However, as the process improved and became better understood, it because cheap enough for the middle class as well.

Execution

The process of Demura begins almost immidiatly after a Scyll is legally dead. After the will is examined to determine the Scyll's wishes, the body is moved to a Temple of Mursi to begin the mummification process.

Participants

The Scyll who leads the actual mummification process is always a priest of Elci or a priest of Mursi. In some cases, priests of both spirits may work together to direct the process.

While doing the mummification only requires a medical degree, actually leading the process requires one to be inducted into the priesthood.
