The Choosing Ceremony

A Lejon tradition. All the youths graduating school stand in front of the family and community and declare their intenttions as an adult. Originally there was a lot of pressure to go into whatever your famiy was in, but after a (trigger warning: attempted suicide)

horrible incident where several youths decided that if they couldn't decide their lives they would take them instead and drank poison (only five died out of a hundred and fifty participants because the poison wasn't very concentrated but it was still shocking)

there has been a speech from the lord to parents gently but firmly reminding them that every job is important and they should be proud of their children no matter what they do. Still, the longer the profession has been the the family, the more pressure (intentional or not) the children have to join in. Especially the eldest.
Examples:

"I wish to be a bard and spread tales of great heroes"

"I wish to be a knight, and fight for my lord and my honor"

"I wish to be a farmer and provide for my community"

After the intentions are declared, the lord then pins a ribbon to each youth and they are deemed to be adults. Parties ensue.
