The Redguard
The Redguard isn't your neighborhood gank squad. The Redguard is an ancient and venerable sisterhood with members in every zone. Contracting an elite assassin from the Redguard can make the difference between triumph for your household and ruination in The Game, particularly in the upper echelons.
The Redguard act independently of political or familial obligation. They choose no sides and have no loyalty but to each other and the fulfillment of their contracts. They infamously go to any lengths to take out their targets in silence and discretion, whether it takes weeks, months, years, or even decades. Their patience and intelligence are legendary.
Joining the Redguard is one of the few means one can use to divorce oneself from their bloodlines and any obligations it carries. It is also one of the few means to cancel any and all contracts one is bound to. There is no such thing as leaving the Redguard. Once a Sister, always and forever a Sister.
They are masters of poison as well as blade. Members of the Redguard are expected to be experts in the knowledge and creation of toxins, applicable doses for each species, and their antidotes (if they exist). They can be contracted not only to eliminate targets, but keep their own mistress or master alive.
Structure
Redguard are ranked in seven tiers beneath the Red Hand, from First Class at the top to Seventh Class at the bottom.
Initiates always begin at Seventh Class. They can rank up through Fifth Class via tests of skill and accumulating successfully eliminated targets.
Ranks First through Fourth Class have a fixed number. There will never be more, nor fewer, than there are now. In order to rank into one of these tiers, one must assassinate a member of that tier. If the assassination is successful, the assassin takes the assassinated individuals rank in the tier, and the assassinated individual is dropped to the assassin's rank and tier.
It is theoretically possible to jump straight from Seventh Class to First Class with a single successful assassination, but doing so is virtually impossible.
Historically, males have been strictly excluded from their number, however in recent centuries this has occasionally been waived. Males should not expect to advance far in the ranks.
