Shieldbreaker

Shieldbreaker: a large two handed sword and one of the fabled Twelve Swords of The Gods. Shieldbreaker is virtually indistinguishable from the other Swords of Power (barring Soulcutter), with the exception of a white hammer engraved on the hilt. It is almost 6 feet in length, and is a double-bladed great sword with a black hilt, forged by Iorak (one of the Lords of Orhan) from a meteorite and cooled in human blood. Like the other Swords, Shieldbreaker retains its edge and luster regardless of use.   Shieldbreaker provides protection from all enemy attacks, whether melee, ranged or magical. Like Townsaver, Shieldbreaker takes over the sword arm of the person using it, and cannot be put down until the battle is over; however, Shieldbreaker will deflect incoming blows, while Townsaver will not. The Sword’s one weakness is its inability to be used against an unarmed foe, meaning that the wielder (weakened by using Shieldbreaker) can be defeated quite easily in hand-to-hand combat.   Shieldbreaker is unique among the Swords, in that it can easily destroy any of the others in melee combat (with the exception of Woundhealer, which will actually destroy Shieldbreaker). In addition, any abilities possessed by the other Swords are negated by Shieldbreaker (i.e., the wielder cannot be slain by Farslayer, or tracked by Wayfinder).

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Shieldbreaker: a large two handed sword with a white hammer engraved on the hilt. It is almost 7 feet in length, and is a double-bladed great sword with a black hilt topped with a stylised eagle’s head. While being used, Shieldbreaker emits a thudding rhythm that quickens when combat begins.   Shieldbreaker shine brilliantly when unsheathed, and strikes all creatures of darkness within 250 feet with a Shock Bolt (+50 bonus at a range of 1-100 ’and +25 bonus at a range of 101-2S0 feet). This effect will only occur after the blade has been sheathed for at least one hour. Creatures of darkness that remain within 50 feet of Shieldbreaker take 2 points of damage per round and attack at -10. lf within 10 feet, they take 5 hits per round and attack at -20. The first round after looking at Shieldbreaker (if it is within 250 feet), any such creature will be stunned unless it resists against 20th level magic.   These swords have an Offensive Bonus of +20 against creatures not of darkness. Against creatures of darkness, its power reacts to the power of its enemy, providing not only an increased offensive bonus, but also increased concussion hit damage on critical strikes. The OB addition, is 20 plus three times the Level of Defender (a level 6 demon would be attacked with a + 33 OB). The additional damage on Critical Hits is found by multiplying the creature’s level by the degree of severity of the critical (‘A’=1; ‘B’=2, ‘C’= 3, etc.). Thus, if Shieldbreaker struck an Undead Level III skeleton (OB of +24) and the weapon chart indicated a ‘21 DS’, an additional 12 concussion hits (3rd level x a 4 degree of severity) would be inflicted in addition to the 21 normal hits and the critical damage.   Shieldbreaker also confers a +20 to DB vs all incoming attacks and a +20 bonus to any RRs. The blade is also of Demonslaying & Dragonslaying.
