Situation Report Thirty Five

General Summary

Can't remember when I last wrote my journal. Everything is screwed in Tarek-Nev. I think I slept a while after we got back to the old palace, but can't be sure. My thigh wound is knitting together and Ugnan looks knackered, so I guess I did.   As we were making some food - breakfast probably - we heard a mechanical keening and spotted a flying ship listing badly to starboard, and side slipping towards the city. A few heartbeats later and there is an almighty rending crunch as the ship ploughs into some ruins out of sight over the palace square. Not wanting to risk an unnecessary skirmish with demons or agents of The Iron Bell I lean in the entrance to the palace and observe the square.   Not five minutes pass and two humanoids limp into view. One is a big lad like myself, carrying a bow, while the other is a mercenary dwarf. Ugnan's magic determines that neither is a demon, and we share stories and food with the newcomers. They both seem pretty handy, so I offer them a spot in the company if they promise to protect each other and us.   We agree to head East and examine the buildings around the old amphitheater we spotted from the Skyship. An open-sided temple contains the corpse of a long-dead Nureti. Nothing on the corpse seems to be one of the final The Portal Rods and I start to bypass the corpse, but the newcomer spots a heavy gold crown on its head and wants some loot.   As we're arguing the toss about the pros and cons of risking another messy combat with a demon-possessed corpse, Sylke darts into the temple and grabs the crown right off the Nureti's head. She turns around triumphantly, but Ugnan and I are close enough to tell something is badly wrong. A dark malevolent smoke rises from the Nureti and floats around the hapless Erlini before plunging into her chest. Despite a despairing attempt at preventing her from becoming possessed by the spirit, we are too late - the Horn Of Valhalla has no effect on her and Sylke disappears into the streets of Tarek-Nev, guided now by some malicious demon...
