Barghest SAF Messenger
Written by: Ripshot
It's kinda surreal if you ask me. Most iron-mongers make firearms then strip 'em down and modify themn for installation into cyberlimbs, but Barghest take purpose-built cyberguns and modify them to work outside of cyberlimbs, in keeping with their MO of putting cybernetic intergration at the top of their list when it comes to weapons design. The Messenger is one of those guns, originally designed to be fired from the palm of a cyberhand but fitted onto an ugly custom-built frame for operation by people who like having both arms, under their new Stand-Alone Frame (SAF) series. Packing Ares' feisty .52 Lancer cartridge, the heavy-pistol throws out comfort and ease of modding in exchange for fantastic compatability and performance with fire-control software found in cyberlimb gyro-stabilisation platforms and smartlink visual implants, and as a little treat, a ceramic construction to trim down on the weight.Early models of the gun were originally paired with a matching cyberarm made entirely of Barghest-made components as a 'full-spectrum combat package' designed to take full advantage of a firearm optimised for use with cyberware without running into cyberweapon laws. Unfortunately, it flopped spectacularly and the pistol itself was nearly mothballed until R&D made components of its software freeware to install on third-party cyberware for almost-as-good results.
