Typhon Munitions Insurance-S1
Written by: Ripshot
Typhon Munitions have always been one of those gun manufacturers that marketed with an air of 'exclusivity' towards bodyguards and point-one-percenters, so imagine my surprise a few years back when the high-and-mighty Typhon dipped their proverbial toes into the waters of guns made for regular jackoffs on a budget by producing the Insurance-S1, a gun designed for "people who need a gun but don't like guns", as CFO Annette Mcintosh so infamously bumbled in that interview. And wouldn't ya know it, Raleigh was chosen to be the testing-ground for this idea. Just show up at Gavlan's Gun-Store & Firing-Range with a valid SiN, pay for a crash-course in firearms safety and operation, and you get this little ditty of a gun and five shots for free! Not as surprising as Ripshot makes it out to be when you consider Typhon's recent financial-woes after that fiasco involving leaked boardroom recordings. 'Safeties are for cowards' indeed...Construction-wise, the Insurance-S1 has a compact derringer design with a fun twist: The cartridge and barrel are combined into one big rectangular piece of fancy high-strength polymer, designed to be fired once before it's disposed of and another barrel/cartridge put in its place. The rest of the gun just houses a trigger hooked up to an eletronic spark based firing-mechanism powered by a tiny rechargable capacitor inside a lightweight alloy frame. You get one shot, and that shot ain't good for anything past point-blank, but the need to only fire once allows for a much higher amount of grain behind the bullet, and the simplified design makes the whole thing idiot-proof. All in all, not a bad pick for someone who doesn't want to invest lots of money into a gat but wants a little ease of mind in their pocket.
Ripshot's not wrong in calling this little fella cute, but don't let that catch you off-guard. It's still a gun with an awful lot of pep for its size, and plenty of average joes in Raleigh are starting to carry it.
Doubly-so now that they're rolling out models with collapsible grips. Turns out that when you don't have to worry about a magazine or other mechanical parts, you can actually do collapsable guns more justice without making it an uncomfy, rattly piece of Drek...
