Arcana

Arcana is a uniquely human magic that borrows from any and all traditions to use the laws of magic to give non-witchborn humans, and human derivative peoples, the power to use magic.

  • it requires a combination of verbal, material, sematic components and almost always this entails the application and inclusion of runes, spell circles, glyphs and other codified magical written work.
  • practitioners of arcana can be of a singular tradition, but most modern users draw from more inclusive and universal traditions paired with one another. It is a very open practice built to the personal taste and skill of the individual.
  • Most arcanists have signature syntax in their spell work that is distinctive, personal, and often highly recognizable to those familiar with their work.
  • Unlike witch craft, arcanists cannot wild cast, cannot imbue items, and cannot use magic of any kind without preparation and materials.
  • arcana is a very broad practice and nearly any effect observable can be emulated in some fashion with enough study and preparation.
  • arcana is *not* actually other kinds of magic and so one cannot use it to actually forcibly open a gate to faery, for instance.
  • Summoning is a specific application of arcana that is unique to arcana. It is the manipulation of a given kind of magic to bring into the mortal realm denzians or powers from the source realm of the magic used.
