Familiar
Familiars are the magically bonded servants of Witches. They tend to be small animals or spirits that a witch then imbues with power and magical properties over time. This allows for a variety of abilities:
use the senses of the familiar as their own to spy or observe from a distance.
store magical power for later use.
communicate from a distance.
guard the witches property or other valuables.
-perform small tasks.
Some witches have strong and friendly bonds with their familiars. Others see them only as tools. Familiars can gain higher sentience, and even be granted the ability to change shapes. Those who are old and imbued with greater magical power can take human and other shape, even hold them for lengths of time passing as human, even if they retain bits of their animalistic traits when they change.
The lengths of their lives depend on their witch, and if their witch dies or severs their bond, a familiar will lose their magic and revert to their original form, living out the rest of their life as they would have had the witch never bonded them as a familiar.
