Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Velorum is tall and willowy, and somehow manages to always seem shorter than he actually is because he's often hunched over.  He is much stronger than he looks, and fearsome when Death takes over his form, imbued with the might and authority of that Incarnum power.

Velorum has command of Shadowmancy like most demons, and his powers as Death.

Apparel & Accessories

Much to the amusement of some around him, Velorum looks like he raided a 90's Hot Topic.  He dresses almost exclusively in black enjoying fishnet, long coats, band shirts, and baggy pants.  He doesn't care for fashion nor value his physical appearance.

When he is truly in his visage as Death, he does, in fact, carry a scythe.

Personal history

As it was in the Beginning, so there was first Light and Darkness and they were everything. Then came Life, and at the same time Death. From the Chaos, Order, and to bind all things in one, Magic. These were the Incarnum and they were the greatest powers in all of known existence.  What was beyond them, even they could not know, for they each existed as a single focus; one portfolio which was the nature and wholeness of them.  Time passed, however, and there was in the world life and things that walked upon the earth and in realms of magic.  In the places of uttermost darkness, and in primordial light.  Sparks of being that called upon the Incarnum and drew from the nature of them and they became with will and personality.  As these sparks gave them traits and shape, so they assumed those.  They took forms, that they might walk the realms of all existence and be of service as their portfolios and natures demanded.  

So there is Death, who is envisioned most by Man.  He need not walk always unveiled in the world, for he is not human and never has been.  Instead, there is Velorum and the two together share a kind of gestalt existence.  When Death need not actively walk the world, then it is Velorum who has the keeping of Death's body and to enact his will upon the world.  He has done so since before Men kept the count of years, and will do so until the light of the last star fades.

Velorum is gentle and kind, hoping and believing always in the best in people.  He does, however, accept that all things must make their own choices and so he does not take a very active hand in the world.

Motivation

Velorum is the Avatar of the Incarnum of Death and so most of his life is dedicated to that end.  He believes in the need for balance and that should he fail to do, all the world suffers, so he takes his duty to balance and service very seriously.  He understands that few people thank him for his work, but it is necessary all the same.

He has something of a temper when he feels someone is standing between him and his duty and unyielding in the execution of his purpose.

Velorum is almost paralyzingly shy.  He is socially awkward and does not always read social subtext well.

Religious Views

Being an Avatar, Velorum has a broad view on religion.  He does not discount the validity of anyone's views because he knows the power of belief can make manifest almost anything.  Magic's most powerful condition is the will of the caster, after all.  He also knows that beyond his own portfolio as Death, he has neither knowledge nor control, so anything is possible.

Social Aptitude

While he is delightfully formal and polite, Velorum is cripplingly shy and not terribly social.  He sometimes gets confused about the time in which he finds himself and has trouble connecting with the living.  He is often insecure, as people's perceptions of Death tend to be unflattering and negative.  It takes him a long time to warm up to people, though those with whom he makes close connections have his undying loyalty.
