“Blanket” Wiretaps

The NSA is exempt from the federal law prohibiting unauthorized domestic wiretaps and usually maintains a huge number of active taps. These taps are generally related to national defense, but can range pretty far afield. With a Rotine Admin/Legal check, the character can call on the NSA to monitor a group of phone lines for specific information. For example, all phones in a particular town or metropolitan neighborhood could be monitored for a particular person’s voice. Or all calls into or out of a specific company’s offices (throughout the country) could be watched for mention of “Flight 815.” The blanket wiretap can be set up in D6 x 2(6) hours, and the taps can be left in place for up to one week.
