Kipine
Kipines start their lives as Owlbears, stalking the forests of Shar in the service of their peerless hunting instincts. Legends say that an Owlbear that slays a hundred thinking Folk is blessed by Malar, the exarch of the wild hunt, and undergoes a terrible metamorphosis, losing much of its bulk but gaining peerless senses and powerful wings that allow it to glide soundlessly through the forests over its prey.
Cloaked in a thick, feathery hide, its arms sport large, flexible wing-membranes and its hind legs taper into vicious talons. On its flat face, large, moonlike eyes and tall ears are capped by a set of imposing antlers that it uses to gouge larger prey.
A kipine's keen senses afford it a nighttime hunting ability that, when paired with their swift reflexes, ground its reputation as one of the most efficient and bloodcurdling hunters in Shar. The kipine shares the unbridled aggression and stubborn ferocity of their owlbear cousins, but they prefer to keep to themselves, silently sneaking about, occasionally targeting prey that carries gold or ornamental trinkets, which they hoard in their nests like dragons.
