The Scorpion and Its Children
Were The Scorpion to attack Al-Jaran, it is said, it would signal the beginning of the end of the World.
The Scorpion is, misleadingly, not a scorpion at all, but a gargantuan demonspawn created by Cimoera. The Scorpion resembles its namesake in every way, except that it is easily sixty feet from claw to tail, with a venom gland the size of a small house and claws that could cut down a watchtower like a bundle of sticks. For hundreds of years it has slept in the Sun, just barely covered by a thin layer of sand, dreaming. It occasionally awakens, turning the young and faithful into horrible Sons of the Scorpion when they should demand its terrible gift, but mostly, it sleeps, and it dreams. But it doesn't do so alone. It remains perpetually attended by the Daughters of the Scorpion, immortal, undying servants made of emaciated darkness, scurrying to and fro on its enormous back, ensuring that the sand which covers its enormous form is always distributed in a perfectly even way. There was once made an attempt to destroy it, and it took the Daughters of the Scorpion weeks to wipe each grain of sand free of the blood of Imperial knights.
The Scorpion's lair, a terrible, hot pit, is deep within the Great Dune Sea, though most villages within a week's ride know of it, and the terrible bargain it offers to the foolish and the desperate. A willing creature can come to The Scorpion and be blessed with his gift, a new and terrible monstrous form with enormous Strength and Constitution. The so-called Sons of the Scorpion quickly go mad as The Scorpion siphons away their memories and senses of self, leaving behind monstrous killing machines that can devastate entire villages.
Beyond this, almost nothing is known about The Scorpion and its motives.
